(TAIS) announces the arrival of Intel’s Mobile Pentium® III processor 1 GHz featuring Intel SpeedStep technology in its Tecra 8200 notebook PC. Providing blazing speed that until today has been unprecedented in a notebook, the Toshiba Tecra 8200 delivers outstanding performance to meet the demands of today’s mobile professional.

With gigahertz performance, Tecra 8200 users can enjoy instant high-speed access to an Ethernet network, fast media-intensive Internet browsing, creating business presentations and quick e-mail messaging. At only 5.5 pounds, Toshiba’s lightweight notebook also offers integrated Wi-Fi (802.11b) technology allowing customers five different means to connect via their PC ensuring users are "Always Connected." Whether via an integrated Ethernet LAN, a Toshiba Wi-Fi access point, modem, fast IR, or Toshiba’s optional Bluetooth PC Card, the unit offers the latest in enhanced mobile communication technologies.

The design of the Tecra 8200 gives customers the freedom to incorporate the latest technological advancements into their enterprise without having to spend time or money re-qualifying systems. Since 1998, the award-winning Tecra series of notebooks has delivered business customers stable platforms, common components and long product life cycles lasting up to 19 months while lowering total cost of ownership.

By offering more than 20,000 possible Build-to-Order (BTO) configuration options, Toshiba customers have the flexibility to build systems that best suit their evolving computing needs. Further increasing choices for the end-user, the Tecra 8200 will also be available as a BTO option with Intel’s Mobile Pentium® III processor, 900MHz.

    Toshiba’s SelectBay Increases User Options and Standard Capabilities
    The Tecra 8200 provides a variety of user options so business customers can match features to their specific requirements via the unit’s SelectBay®. The SelectBay accommodates up to nine optional interchangeable modular devices including a second battery, second hard drive, CD-R/RW, Iomega Notebook Zip® 250MB drive and LS120 SuperDisk, which are backward compatible with the Tecra 8100. Whether it’s adding storage, backing-up data or extending battery life, Toshiba’s SelectBay answers the need.

    Flexible, Configurable Expansion and Backward Compatible Docking Solutions
    Remaining "Always Flexible" while providing maximum investment protection, the Tecra 8200 series offers expansion capabilities that are backward compatible with the Tecra 8100. The NetDock port replicator ($299) provides one-touch port replication, cable management and built-in Ethernet. For customers needing complete desktop capabilities, the Expansion Station docking base can be added for $399. Since the two pieces work together, customers can purchase the NetDock port replicator and later add the Expansion Station if needed without losing their initial investment. Also available is the optional slimline Tecra 8200 Monitor Stand ($79) designed to support external CRT monitors up to 21 inches (77 lbs.).

    For customers looking for a port replication solution with PC Card network capabilities, Toshiba offers the CardDock Port Replicator ($329). The CardDock Port Replicator includes one Type III PC Card slot, USB and a full array of expansion ports for easy connection to monitors, keyboards and printers.

    Customized Service and Support Offerings
    All Tecra 8200 Series notebooks come with a three-year parts and labor standard warranty including Toshiba’s Notebook Depot repair program. Through this program, a notebook is shipped to Toshiba’s depot, repaired and returned anywhere in the United States within 48 hours after receipt at the depot (service Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.). Warranty service also includes the option of carry-in service to one of Toshiba’s Authorized Service Partners, located in major metropolitan areas in the United States. In addition, all portable computer customers receive telephone technical support through Toshiba’s InTouch Center®, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
